CLEAR CTE CREDENTIAL CANDIDATE JOURNEY
The Yolo-Solano Center for Teacher Credentialing (YSCTC) offers a Clear CTE Credentialing Program for those who have obtained a Preliminary CTE credential. The Clear CTE Credential Program at YSCTC is structured with two pathways: those WITH previous teaching experience and credentials and those WITHOUT teaching credentials.
At the YSCTC, we provide flexible synchronous and asynchronous options for all coursework and meetings.

Candidates without Teaching Credentials
For those individuals with relevant industry work experience who may be new to teaching, and want the option to teach Career & Technical Education, YSCTC's program is approximately 2 years (4 semesters) in length. Depending on the candidate's previous educational experience and teaching context the clear program will contain variations of the following elements:
- Dedicated Orientation to CTE teaching, in the context of the Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs);
- Professional Development Online Training Modules, offered through CTE TEACH, that introduce the candidate to the CTE teaching contexts of:
- Instructional Technology
- Work-Based Learning
- Middle School Learners
- Adult Learning/Community College
- Increasing Rigor and Relevance in the Classroom
- Teaching CTE Online
- Teacher Externship Toolkit
- CTE Foundations
- An individualized program that includes focused cycles of inquiry and reflection in the teaching context;
- A CTE credentialed mentor; and
- 2 years of successful teaching verification, within the context of the industry sector(s) authorized on the preliminary credential.
Candidates with a Teaching Credential and Previous Teaching Experience
For those individuals who may be taking on a new role within their teaching assignment, or who may have accumulated industry work experience and want the option to teach Career & Technical Education, YSCTC's program is approximately 1 year (2 semesters) in length. Depending on the candidate's previous teaching credentials and location of teaching experience the clear program will contain some or all of the following elements:
- 1 year of successful teaching verification, within the context of the industry sector(s) authorized on the preliminary credential;
- Dedicated Orientation to CTE teaching, in the context of the Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs);
- Professional Development Online Training Modules, offered through CTE TEACH, that introduce the candidate to the CTE teaching contexts of:
- Instructional Technology
- Work-Based Learning
- Middle School Learners
- Adult Learning/Community College
- Increasing Rigor and Relevance in the Classroom
- Teaching CTE Online
- Teacher Externship Toolkit
- CTE Foundations
- An individualized program that includes cycles of inquiry and reflection into the difference in teaching context when compared to any previous teaching credentials/experience.
Other Clear CTE Credential Requirements
meetingRegardless of the candidate's journey into the context of teaching CTE, recommendation for the five-year Clear CTE Credential requires they verify completion of the following requirements:
Typically, candidates who completed a teacher preparation program in California and enter with a teaching credential, have already completed the first three requirements.
Note: The CPR certification should be current during the term of the Preliminary CTE Credential.
- Verify U.S. Constitution (exam/course)
- Verify Health for Educators Requirements, including infant, child, and adult CPR (exam/course)
- Verify Technology for Educators Requirements (course/advanced equivalency)
- Show successful completion of individualized program
Typically, candidates who completed a teacher preparation program in California and enter with a teaching credential, have already completed the first three requirements.
