What is the Classified Grant?
The Yolo-Solano Center for Teacher Credentialing in partnership with Davis Joint Unified School District, has been selected as a California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program grant recipient. This program is a teacher career pathway created to recruit, assist and support classified school employees leading to a teaching credential. Eligible  program participants may receive stipends up to  $3,175  per year for the next 5 years to cover eligible expenses (tuition, fees, and books) for becoming a classroom teacher.

Grant Application

AWARD RECIPIENTS  MUST COMMIT TO ACCOMPLISH ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
  • Must maintain an employment relationship with your district of record.
  • Graduate from an institution of higher education with a bachelor’s degree, if you have not completed a BA/BS already.
  • Must submit official transcripts and exam results.
  • Pass all required tests for credentialing (i.e., CBEST, RICA, CSET.) 
  • Obtain a multiple subject, single subject, or educational specialist teaching credential.
  • Complete one school year of classroom instruction in a school district, charter school, or county office of education of the consortium for each year that you receive the Grant.





FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who may apply for the Classified School Employee to Teacher Program?
Any classified employee may apply for this program. You must have a minimum of an AA/AS or two years of coursework toward a BS/BA in order to apply. If you have completed a BA/BS you are eligible to apply.

If I am selected, what are the requirements to stay in the program?
You must continue to be employed with the Davis Joint Unified School District, Benicia Unified School District, Calistoga Joint Unified, Comptonville Elementary, Dixon Joint Unified School District, Esparto Unified School District, Gateway and River Charter Schools, Howell Mountain & Pope Valley Union Elementary, Marysville Joint Unified School District, Napa County Office of Education, Napa Valley Unified, Plumas Lake Elementary, Saint Helena Unified, Solano County Office of Education, Vacaville Unified School District, Wheatland School District, Winter Joint Unified School District, Woodland Joint Unified School District, Yolo County Office of Education and Yuba County Office of Education.
Do I have to pay the district back the funds awarded to me?
No. This is a grant which means as long as you follow the program guidelines, you do not need to repay the funds to the district.

Once I graduate with my teaching credential, will I automatically be hired by a participating District as a certificated employee?
No. You will still have to go through the normal application process for employment. If you are hired, applicants are required to complete one year of classroom instruction as a teacher in exchange for each year of funding assistance provided to them by this program.

Will the district provide any other assistance to participants in this program?
The district will establish student cohorts as well as provide test prep services, advice, and support to employees participating in this program.

When is the due date for the application form?
